Allow me to introduce myself.

I’m Kat and I grew up in West Yorkshire. A few years ago, I made the greatest decision of my little life and moved to York to study English at University. I studied hard, met some lifelong friends and vowed to never live anywhere without a York postcode (a promise well kept, as yet).
My love of writing transpired unexpectedly on a Wednesday in Year 3. As a painfully shy child, I was initially mortified when the teacher selected my story to be read aloud in class. I cringed at the prospect of my fragile imagination being ripped to shreds by my peers. Luckily, the class didn’t erupt into laughter as I had expected. Instead, the room fell completely silent and the children around me were utterly captivated by what I had written (a ghost story narrated by a fisherman, if memory serves me correct). Looking back, my choice of metaphor was abysmal and the plot holes were glaring, however, it is undeniable that that day transformed how I would view the world for years to come.
From then on, I would constantly notice myself observing the world, inventing characters and storylines in my head. If I’m ever watching a film or a play now, I’m usually enjoying it but I’m also likely to be reimagining the scene as I think it should be. Whenever possible, I spend my spare time reading and writing.
An English professor introduced me to the concept that humans process and interpret their experiences using narratives. We cognitively organise the chaos of existence into neat, digestible stories that subsequently inform how we make sense of the world. It sounds a bit pretentious when you put it like that, but I think the fundamental point here is that writing and storytelling allows us to be our most human.
Ultimately, I would love to be human for a living.
I have collated various different media formats as blog posts to demonstrate my personal experience with being creative and communicating with large audiences.
I hope you like them and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Yours Faithfully,
Kat
